H.R. No. 907 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Richard E. Morrow on January 3, 1995, 1-2 at the age of 67, has brought a great loss to the many friends and 1-3 relatives of this distinguished Fort Stockton businessman and civic 1-4 leader; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born March 19, 1927, in Sweetwater, Oklahoma, he 1-6 demonstrated exemplary patriotism as a young man, serving his 1-7 country with distinction as a member of the United States Marine 1-8 Corps; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He relocated to Fort Stockton in 1958 and embarked 1-10 on a highly successful career; blessed with a tireless work ethic 1-11 and keen business acumen, Mr. Morrow ascended to the pinnacle of 1-12 corporate achievement, becoming Fort Stockton, Alpine and Midland 1-13 CEO of Valley Distributors, Inc., as well as CEO of Southwest 1-14 Miller; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Renowned for his exceptional leadership abilities, 1-16 Mr. Morrow served as the 1994 president of the Wholesale Beer 1-17 Distributors of Texas, as director and vice president of the 1-18 District 8 West Texas Chamber of Commerce, as director of the Pecos 1-19 County State Bank and the Fort Stockton Jaycees, and as president 1-20 of the Fort Stockton Development Committee and was a progressive 1-21 and dynamic presence in those varied positions; and 1-22 WHEREAS, His considerable contributions to the community were 1-23 not limited to his participation in the private sector; as a 1-24 respected public servant, Mr. Morrow served two productive terms on 2-1 the Fort Stockton City Council and held the position of mayor pro 2-2 tem; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Mr. Morrow received many accolades for his efforts 2-4 in behalf of his fellow citizens, including designation as the 1987 2-5 Citizen of the Year by the Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce and 2-6 the Outstanding Citizen award by the Concho Valley Council of the 2-7 Boy Scouts of America; and 2-8 WHEREAS, A man of deep and abiding religious convictions, he 2-9 shared his faith as an active member of the congregation at First 2-10 Presbyterian Church, where he also was an elder and deacon; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Richard E. Morrow was a man of rare vision and 2-12 generosity; although his warmth and wisdom will be missed by all 2-13 who knew him, his remarkable spirit will surely live on in the 2-14 hearts of the many people whose lives he touched during his time on 2-15 this earth; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby honor the life of Richard E. Morrow and extend 2-18 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Lorene 2-19 Morrow; to his children, John Morrow, David Morrow, and Anne Beck; 2-20 to his brothers, Bill Morrow and W. C. Morrow; to his sister, Uma 2-21 Dowding; to his grandchildren, John Charles Beck II, Zachary Gunter 2-22 Morrow, Joshua Gunter Morrow, and Curtis Trace Morrow; and to the 2-23 many other friends and relatives of this esteemed gentleman; and, 2-24 be it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-26 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 2-27 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Richard E. 3-1 Morrow.
