H.R. No. 911 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Philip Lader has long played an active role in 1-2 making this country a better place in which to live, work, and 1-3 raise a family; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A respected South Carolina businessman, educator, 1-5 and former candidate for governor, Mr. Lader currently shares his 1-6 considerable knowledge and expertise to the benefit of this nation 1-7 as a member of President Clinton's cabinet and the National 1-8 Economic Council; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Lader also has greatly benefited the Clinton 1-10 Administration in the past as White House deputy chief of staff and 1-11 assistant to the president and as deputy director for management of 1-12 the Office of Management and Budget; and 1-13 WHEREAS, This outstanding public servant has brought to each 1-14 new challenging role that he has taken on a wealth of academic and 1-15 professional experience gained over the course of his multifaceted 1-16 career; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Lader earned his higher education at a number of 1-18 prestigious institutions, including Duke University, the University 1-19 of Michigan, Oxford University, and Harvard Law School; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A member of the South Carolina, District of 1-21 Columbia, and Florida state bars, he received valuable training as 1-22 a law clerk with the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and has 1-23 excelled in the business arena as well as a licensed real estate 1-24 broker and former president of Sea Pine Company, an enterprise that 2-1 developed and operated award-winning recreational communities; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Mr. Lader is a former president of South Carolina's 2-3 Winthrop University, where he served as a professor of business and 2-4 public policy, and he also distinguished himself as president of 2-5 Australia's first private university before leaving his post to 2-6 join the Clinton Administration; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Lader has earned many 2-8 well-deserved accolades for his service, including an honorary 2-9 doctorate from the University of South Carolina, and in all his 2-10 endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and support of his beloved wife 2-11 and two daughters, Mary-Catherine and Whitaker; and 2-12 WHEREAS, At this time, it gives the members of this chamber 2-13 great pleasure to honor this fine gentleman for his dedicated 2-14 service; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-16 Legislature hereby commend Philip Lader for his extensive 2-17 contributions to the betterment of this nation and extend to him 2-18 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the 2-19 future; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for Mr. Lader as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-22 House of Representatives.
