R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Lucille Evelyn Wolz on May 2, 1995,
1-2 at the age of 69, has brought a great loss to the many friends and
1-3 relatives of this distinguished lady; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Odessa, Mrs. Wolz began her
1-5 32-year association with Ector County in 1956 as an employee in the
1-6 courthouse's record-keeping office, where she quickly earned a
1-7 well-deserved reputation for excellence based on her hard work,
1-8 professionalism, and attention to detail; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Well versed in local government operations, she won
1-10 election to the office of Ector County clerk in 1974, in which
1-11 capacity she served her fellow citizens with integrity and
1-12 distinction for 14 years before retiring from public office in
1-13 1988; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Her outstanding tenure earned her much acclaim; she
1-15 was honored by the Ector County Commissioners Court for her
1-16 exemplary record of public service and received the Liberty Bell
1-17 Award from the Ector County Bar Association, and she was honored
1-18 with several other prestigious awards from state and local bar
1-19 associations; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Mrs. Wolz continued to leave an indelible mark on
1-21 the Odessa community through her service to numerous professional
1-22 and civic organizations, including the National Association of
1-23 Retired Federal Employees, the Odessa Legal Secretaries
1-24 Association, and the American Business Women's Association, and she
2-1 was honored by the latter two organizations as Boss of the Year;
2-2 and
2-3 WHEREAS, This remarkable lady also gave generously of her
2-4 time, talents, and energies to the benefit of several worthy
2-5 community service organizations, including the Altrusa Club, the
2-6 Baptist Crisis Center, and Meals on Wheels; deeply committed to
2-7 public safety issues, she was an ardent supporter of all of the
2-8 Ector County volunteer fire departments; and
2-9 WHEREAS, In recognition of her outstanding civic involvement,
2-10 Mrs. Wolz was named First Lady of Odessa in 1991, and she was
2-11 bestowed with the Community Statesman Award from the Heritage
2-12 Foundation of Odessa; and
2-13 WHEREAS, Throughout her many endeavors, Mrs. Wolz was
2-14 nourished by a deep and abiding religious faith, which she
2-15 eloquently expressed as a member of the First Baptist Church, where
2-16 she had served as church secretary and as a Sunday School teacher;
2-17 and
2-18 WHEREAS, This exceptional woman touched the lives of many
2-19 people during her lifetime, and though her presence will be deeply
2-20 missed, her memory will endure in the hearts and minds of all those
2-21 who came to know and love her; now, therefore, be it
2-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-23 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lucille Evelyn Wolz
2-24 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
2-25 beloved husband of 49 years, Johnny Wolz; to her sons, Jerry F.
2-26 Wolz and Larry R. Wolz; to her mother, Lorea M. Brown; to her
2-27 sisters, Cora Bell Shows and Dorothy Grizzard; to her brothers,
3-1 Robert J. Brown and Bennie A. Brown; to her grandchildren, Jennifer
3-2 Guy and Julie Persilver; to her great-grandchildren, Devan Wolz and
3-3 Zachary Guy; and to her many other friends and relatives; and, be
3-4 it further
3-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-6 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
3-7 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
3-8 Lucille Evelyn Wolz.
