                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Crockett Junior High School, an outstanding
    1-2  educational facility in  the Ector County Independent School
    1-3  District, has been selected for consideration by the U.S.
    1-4  Department of Education's Drug-Free Schools Recognition Program for
    1-5  its superior efforts in fighting substance abuse and violence; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Qualifying schools from Texas have been recognized
    1-7  and recommended for the program for their innovative programs aimed
    1-8  at eliminating the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs, as
    1-9  well as the violence that often accompanies them, from the halls
   1-10  and classrooms of our state's schools by the Texas Education
   1-11  Agency, the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, the Texan's
   1-12  War on Drugs, and the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Many educational institutions across our state and
   1-14  nation are now permeated with the despair and violence that
   1-15  surround substance abuse, and this pervasive problem can destroy
   1-16  students' will to learn and sometimes even their will to survive;
   1-17  and
   1-18        WHEREAS, The specter of drug abuse poses a severe threat to
   1-19  all Texans, but it is the youngest members of our society who are
   1-20  most vulnerable to this destructive behavior, and those schools who
   1-21  arm their students with the knowledge and information they need to
   1-22  avoid involvement in substance abuse are indeed worthy of special
   1-23  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   1-24        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-1  Legislature hereby congratulate Crockett Junior High School on
    2-2  their nomination for consideration in the U.S. Department of
    2-3  Education's Drug-Free Schools Recognition Program and extend
    2-4  sincere best wishes to the school for continued success in the
    2-5  pursuit of this worthy endeavor; and, be it further
    2-6        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-7  prepared for prominent display at Crockett Junior High School as an
    2-8  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
