                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, On May 27, 1995, residents of Kirbyville and
    1-2  surrounding communities will gather to dedicate the Kirbyville
    1-3  Veterans' Memorial and honor those individuals from the area who
    1-4  have died in service to their country; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Inscribed in the memorial are the names of 881 brave
    1-6  soldiers, whose service spanned conflicts from the Civil War to
    1-7  Operation Desert Storm; while each of these courageous citizens was
    1-8  from the Kirbyville area, they also shared another common bond in
    1-9  that they placed their nation's sovereignty and safety above
   1-10  consideration for their own lives; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, An honored guest at this event will be Staff
   1-12  Sergeant Lucian Adams, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for
   1-13  exhibiting unflinching bravery and remarkable heroism in an
   1-14  encounter near St. Die, France, during World War II in which he
   1-15  single-handedly captured several heavily fortified enemy positions;
   1-16  and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The Veterans Memorial Committee labored tirelessly
   1-18  to raise the necessary funds to create this important memorial, and
   1-19  its dedicated officers are: Giles Horn, president; Joe Folk, vice
   1-20  president; Jean McDaniel, secretary; and Lindel Smith, treasurer;
   1-21  and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Other Veterans Memorial Committee members who
   1-23  provided invaluable assistance in bringing this project to fruition
   1-24  include Sam Cofty, Alton Adams, Nelda Herrin, Linda Roberts, Gail
    2-1  Shelby, Robert Lee and Hazel Fuller, Pat Manchac, Onnie Weaver,
    2-2  Jerry Weaver, Pete Patrick, Earl Glenn, Robert Jones, Charles
    2-3  Jones, William Grigsby, Bill Patrick, Calvin Barnett, Bessie Smith,
    2-4  Willie McDaniel, and Bill Pressley; the Kirbyville American Legion
    2-5  Post No.  465 also made significant contributions to this worthy
    2-6  cause; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, To truly comprehend the value of liberty, a
    2-8  citizenry must never be allowed to forget the many sacrifices made
    2-9  by their forebears to preserve their country's cherished freedoms,
   2-10  and it is appropriate that they be remembered for their exceptional
   2-11  service with this fitting memorial that will stand forevermore in
   2-12  their honor; now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-14  Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the Kirbyville
   2-15  Veterans' Memorial and honor those men and women from the
   2-16  Kirbyville area who paid the ultimate price in service to their
   2-17  nation; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-19  prepared for the Veterans Memorial Committee as an expression of
   2-20  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
