H.R. No. 929 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, For nearly six years, Phyllis Pickett has labored 1-2 tirelessly in behalf of her fellow citizens as an active and 1-3 valuable member of the East El Paso Lions Club; and 1-4 WHEREAS, On October 1, 1989, she became the first female 1-5 member of the East El Paso Lions Club since it was chartered in 1-6 1952, and during her remarkable tenure with that fine organization 1-7 Mrs. Pickett has served its membership as Lion tamer, third vice 1-8 president, second vice president, and first vice president; in 1994 1-9 she became the club's first female Lion boss and has since been 1-10 reelected to a second term in that demanding post; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Extremely dedicated as a club member and officer, 1-12 Mrs. Pickett has attended numerous Lions International Conventions 1-13 and two U.S./Canada Forums; she also has toured the Lions Leader 1-14 Dog School in Rochester, Michigan, and has visited the Lions 1-15 Crippled Children's Camp in Kerrville and many clubs throughout the 1-16 district and city; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The mother of a family of Lions, she has been 1-18 consistently supported in all her endeavors by her husband, Glen 1-19 Pickett, who has served as a district governor for the 1-20 organization, and by their children, State Representative Joe 1-21 Pickett, Pat Pickett, Chris Pickett, and Anne Pickett, who also 1-22 have found fulfillment and enjoyment through the Lions Club; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The world's largest service organization, Lions 1-24 International has seen many dedicated women such as Mrs. Pickett 2-1 pursue the vital task of community service through the 2-2 organization, and it is indeed fitting that the many notable 2-3 achievements of these lady Lions be given special legislative 2-4 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby commend Phyllis Pickett for her many sterling 2-7 accomplishments as a member of the East El Paso Lions Club and, in 2-8 honor of her efforts and those of all women who actively 2-9 participate as members of the Lions Club, declare June 2, 1995, as 2-10 Appreciation of Women in Lionism Day in the State of Texas; and, be 2-11 it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Mrs. Pickett as an expression of high regard by the 2-14 Texas House of Representatives.
