                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to join
    1-2  the many friends and relatives of Lorene Cariker Dorsey in honoring
    1-3  this lovely lady on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, A native Texan, she was born in Clayton on May 29,
    1-5  1895, to Dr. and Mrs. F. W.  Cariker, the eldest of four children
    1-6  in her family; as a young child, she moved with her family to
    1-7  Cushing, where her father practiced medicine and she attended
    1-8  public school; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, After receiving her high school diploma, this
   1-10  enterprising young woman continued her education to earn a teaching
   1-11  certificate from San Marcos Teachers College; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, In 1915, the former Miss Cariker became the bride of
   1-13  James B.  Dorsey, a local banker, and in 1923, the devoted couple
   1-14  moved to Nacogdoches; Mr. Dorsey became a valued employee of the
   1-15  Nacogdoches Ice Cream Company and they raised a fine family of
   1-16  three children, James B. Dorsey, Jr., the late Dr.  Fred G. Dorsey,
   1-17  and Mary Frances Dorsey Fickett, amid the piney woods of East
   1-18  Texas; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Dorsey continues to make her home in
   1-20  Nacogdoches, residing with her daughter, Mary Frances, and
   1-21  son-in-law, Dr. Harold Fickett, a retired Baptist minister; a
   1-22  devout Baptist herself, Mrs. Dorsey remains a faithful member of
   1-23  the First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches, having taught Bible
   1-24  studies there for 35 years, and she also is a member of the
    2-1  Daughters of the American Republic and the beloved grandmother of
    2-2  eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, During her long and fruitful life, Lorene Cariker
    2-4  Dorsey has brought great joy and happiness to the many people whose
    2-5  lives she has touched; a cherished member of her family and
    2-6  community, this dear lady has indeed earned a special place in the
    2-7  hearts of all who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby pay tribute to Lorene Cariker Dorsey and extend
   2-10  warmest congratulations to her on the momentous occasion of her
   2-11  100th birthday; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-13  prepared for Mrs. Dorsey as an expression of highest regard by the
   2-14  Texas House of Representatives.
