                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Employees of Athens Brick Company have worked for 18
    1-2  years without suffering any serious injuries, thus setting a
    1-3  remarkable record of 1,649,389 accident-free work hours at the
    1-4  plant; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, This exceptional safety record was begun on March
    1-6  23, 1977, and has continued through March 23, 1995; during that
    1-7  time, not one of the company's 55 employees has suffered a
    1-8  disabling or loss-time injury; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The company's managers and employees celebrated this
   1-10  achievement on April 14, 1995, at a Safety Award Banquet, where
   1-11  workers were awarded merchandise gift certificates in recognition
   1-12  of their individual contributions to plant safety; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Founded in the community of Athens in 1955, Athens
   1-14  Brick Company was acquired by Texas Industries, Inc., 12 years
   1-15  later; since then, it has grown to encompass plants in Mineral
   1-16  Wells and Morringsport, Louisiana, and the company now supplies
   1-17  bricks to builders throughout Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and
   1-18  Oklahoma; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Through the years, the plant's conscientious safety
   1-20  record has earned the company state and national recognition,
   1-21  including an Award of Merit from the Texas Safety Association and
   1-22  several honors from the National Safety Council; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Athens Brick Company has created a positive, healthy
   1-24  work environment while maintaining its competitive business edge,
    2-1  and it has set an outstanding example for other Texas businesses to
    2-2  follow; now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-4  Legislature hereby honor Athens Brick Company for its exemplary
    2-5  18-year safety record and extend to all of the plant's employees
    2-6  and managers warmest best wishes for many more years of continued
    2-7  success; and, be it further
    2-8        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-9  prepared for Athens Brick Company as an expression of high regard
   2-10  by the Texas House of Representatives.
