                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Cristina Salinas, a fifth-grade student at
    1-2  Canterbury Elementary School, was recently named a state winner in
    1-3  the Rising Star Project competition sponsored by Baylor University
    1-4  and the Waco Independent School District; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Miss Salinas was honored for her achievement at an
    1-6  annual conference and awards ceremony on April 29, 1995; before
    1-7  advancing to the state finals of this prestigious contest, Miss
    1-8  Salinas and her fellow students at Canterbury Elementary School
    1-9  submitted stories, poetry, and art projects for a campus
   1-10  competition, and all of their works were published in a campus
   1-11  anthology; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Miss Salinas was among nine exceptional students who
   1-13  were selected as finalists, all of whom went on to compete at the
   1-14  statewide level against other outstanding students from across the
   1-15  Lone Star State; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Amid stiff competition, Miss Salinas was named a
   1-17  winner for her inspired poem, "There's A Girl Who Wants
   1-18  Everything," and her work will be enjoyed by countless Texans in
   1-19  this year's edition of Rising Star Young Texan Tales magazine; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Cristina Salinas has demonstrated exceptional
   1-21  creativity, initiative, and maturity on her way to winning this
   1-22  illustrious competition, and it is indeed fitting that she be
   1-23  recognized for her outstanding achievement; now, therefore, be it
   1-24        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-1  Legislature hereby congratulate Cristina Salinas on being named a
    2-2  state winner in the Rising Star Project competition and extend to
    2-3  her warmest best wishes for continued success in all her future
    2-4  endeavors; and, be it further
    2-5        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-6  prepared for Miss Salinas as an expression of high regard by the
    2-7  Texas House of Representatives.
