R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, On May 20, 1995, the Martin Luther King Parade
1-2 Foundation will host an appreciation awards banquet and ceremony to
1-3 pay tribute to the countless Texans who, as volunteers,
1-4 participants, and supporters, helped to make this year's Martin
1-5 Luther King Day Parade in downtown Houston a resounding success;
1-6 and
1-7 WHEREAS, This gala affair will recognize the achievements of
1-8 many outstanding Houston citizens who have demonstrated courage,
1-9 commitment, and compassion as community leaders, as well as those
1-10 who organized and participated in the 1995 Martin Luther King Day
1-11 Parade; the keynote address will be delivered by our esteemed
1-12 colleague, the Honorable Ron Wilson, and the event will feature
1-13 celebrated musician Conrad Johnson; and
1-14 WHEREAS, The Martin Luther King Parade Foundation's
1-15 Appreciation Awards Banquet and Ceremony will offer the members and
1-16 officers of the Martin Luther King Parade Foundation a chance to
1-17 reflect on the success of this year's parade, which was attended by
1-18 an estimated 400,000 Texans, and to look forward with anticipation
1-19 to next year's event; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Through their tireless efforts, the officers and
1-21 members of the Martin Luther King Parade Foundation have helped to
1-22 bring our state closer to achieving Dr. King's vision of a society
1-23 in which all Americans may enjoy peace, prosperity, and justice,
1-24 and the foundation's many remarkable accomplishments are indeed
2-1 worthy of special legislative recognition and support; now,
2-2 therefore, be it
2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-4 Legislature hereby honor the Martin Luther King Parade Foundation
2-5 on the occasion of its appreciation awards banquet and ceremony and
2-6 commend its officers, members, and supporters for their outstanding
2-7 contributions to the community of Houston and the State of Texas;
2-8 and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-10 prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the
2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
