No. 953 74R13327 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Adam Stewart for his compassionate efforts in the wake of the 1-3 recent Oklahoma City tragedy; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The son of Bill and Joy Stewart, Mr. Stewart is a 1-5 6th grade student at Mary Moss Elementary School in Mesquite; and 1-6 WHEREAS, After learning of the April 19, 1995, attack on a 1-7 federal building in Oklahoma City, this caring young Texan sought 1-8 to memorialize the victims of the explosion while helping his 1-9 classmates and teachers cope with their feelings of grief and 1-10 shock; and 1-11 WHEREAS, He created a small memorial consisting of four 1-12 colored ribbons to be worn in remembrance of those who were 1-13 affected by the tragedy; each color had a separate meaning, with 1-14 one representing the victims, one symbolizing the children who were 1-15 in the building's day care center, one supporting the citizens of 1-16 the State of Oklahoma, and yet another representing our grieving 1-17 nation; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Stewart worked well into the night preparing the 1-19 ribbons, which he distributed to the school's faculty and staff on 1-20 the following day; and 1-21 WHEREAS, This remarkable young man then organized a group of 1-22 his classmates to make similar ribbons for each of the school's 500 1-23 students in kindergarten through the sixth grade; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Adam Stewart's commendable actions truly exemplify 2-1 the best traits that we can hope to find in Texas' youth today, and 2-2 it gives the members of this chamber great pleasure to join with 2-3 his family, friends, and community in honoring him for his 2-4 outstanding efforts; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby honor Adam Stewart for his heartfelt tribute to 2-7 the victims of the Oklahoma City tragedy and commend him for his 2-8 admirable initiative and compassion; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Mr. Stewart as an expression of highest regard by the 2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
