By Pitts H.R. No. 954 74R13343 PAN-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Wilbert H. Meischen on May 21, 1994, 1-2 at the age of 71, brought a great loss to the many people who knew 1-3 and admired this esteemed gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born in the Garfield 1-5 community of DeWitt County and moved in his youth to Orange Grove, 1-6 where he was graduated from high school in 1942; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Mr. Meischen proudly served his country for three 1-8 years in the U.S. Air Force before continuing his education at 1-9 Texas A&I University in Kingsville, which awarded him his 1-10 bachelor's and master's degrees; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In 1949, he took as his bride the former Sue Lenelle 1-12 Dill of Aransas Pass, and the couple shared a wonderful marriage 1-13 that was blessed with two devoted sons, Herb and Scott, in whose 1-14 achievements their father took great pride; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A gifted educator, Mr. Meischen taught vocational 1-16 agriculture in Raymondville from 1949 to 1965, during which period 1-17 he gave generously of his time, talent, and energies to the benefit 1-18 of hundreds of Texas high school students, helping them to develop 1-19 a deeper appreciation for and understanding of the land by working 1-20 closely with them on the 12-acre farm made available for that 1-21 purpose; and 1-22 WHEREAS, In 1965, he was elected the fourth executive 1-23 director of the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of 1-24 Texas, in which capacity he served with the utmost integrity and 2-1 distinction until his retirement in 1990; during his remarkable 2-2 tenure, Mr. Meischen realized many significant achievements for his 2-3 colleagues in vocational agriculture and set high standards to 2-4 which others may aspire; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Wilbert Meischen's devotion 2-6 to his family, church, country, and profession were legendary and 2-7 his contributions in each regard endeared him to all who were 2-8 privileged to share in his life during his time on this earth; now, 2-9 therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Wilbert H. Meischen 2-12 and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-13 wife, Sue Meischen of Austin; to his sons and daughter-in-law, Herb 2-14 Meischen of Wichita, Kansas, and Scott and Beverly Meischen of 2-15 Dallas; to his three beloved grandchildren, Emily, Michael, and 2-16 Johnathan; to his brother, Elwood Meischen of Orange Grove; to his 2-17 sisters-in-law, Betty Greene of Austin and Madeline Meischen of 2-18 Orange Grove; and to the many other friends and relatives of this 2-19 fine man; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-22 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-23 Wilbert H. Meischen.
