                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Ann Zene Cathey is retiring from her position as a
    1-2  teacher with Rains Junior High School, drawing to a close an
    1-3  exceptional career in the field of education that has spanned 35
    1-4  years; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A graduate of Tyler Junior College, she furthered
    1-6  her education by earning bachelor's and master's degrees from East
    1-7  Texas State University; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Mrs. Cathey began her career as an educator in 1960,
    1-9  when she taught business education courses in the Crandall
   1-10  Independent School District; in the following year, she transferred
   1-11  to Boles Home I.S.D. where she taught a variety of business and
   1-12  language arts courses for five years; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, She became a substitute teacher with the Rains
   1-14  Independent School District in 1966, and for a brief period, she
   1-15  taught English and language arts classes in junior and senior high
   1-16  school during the day, while teaching English in adult education
   1-17  courses in the evenings; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Deeply committed to her chosen profession, she
   1-19  became a full-time teacher with the district in 1973, and for more
   1-20  than a decade she served as a life-shaping influence for
   1-21  first-graders at Rains Elementary School; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, For the past 11 years, Mrs. Cathey has taught at
   1-23  Rains Junior High School, and she has served with distinction as
   1-24  chairperson of the English department; well regarded throughout her
    2-1  chosen profession, she also has shared her wealth of expertise and
    2-2  experience as a mentor for student teachers; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, She continues to make many significant contributions
    2-4  to the field of education as an active member of the Association of
    2-5  Texas Professional Educators; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Her exceptional service has earned her much acclaim,
    2-7  and she was made an honorary life member in the Texas Congress of
    2-8  Parents and Teachers; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, This remarkable lady has served as an inspiring role
   2-10  model to countless young Texans, and her exceptional commitment to
   2-11  the youth of this state is indeed deserving of special recognition;
   2-12  now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-14  Legislature hereby honor Ann Zene Cathey for her outstanding
   2-15  service as an educator and extend to her best wishes for a happy
   2-16  and rewarding retirement; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-18  prepared for Mrs. Cathey as an expression of high regard by the
   2-19  Texas House of Representatives.
