H.R. No. 958 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Emery S. Cathey is retiring this year from his post 1-2 as principal of Rains Elementary School, drawing to a close an 1-3 exemplary career in education that has spanned more than three 1-4 decades; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A graduate of East Texas State University who holds 1-6 both a bachelor's and a master's degree in education, Mr. Cathey 1-7 began his outstanding career as an educator with the Boles Home 1-8 Independent School District (ISD) in 1963, serving as a math and 1-9 social studies instructor and as a coach for the district until 1-10 1966, when he began his tenure with Rains ISD; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Mr. Cathey established a well-deserved reputation 1-12 for excellence as a math teacher and principal at the elementary, 1-13 junior, and senior high levels, and also served the district well 1-14 as interim superintendent and assistant superintendent before being 1-15 named principal of Rains Elementary School in 1977; and 1-16 WHEREAS, For 18 years, this admirable gentleman has performed 1-17 his duties as principal with the utmost integrity and distinction 1-18 and his commitment to helping every child achieve the best 1-19 education possible has earned him a special place in the hearts of 1-20 the school's students, parents, and staff; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Honored on numerous occasions over the course of his 1-22 fine tenure, Mr. Cathey was awarded a life membership in the Texas 1-23 Congress of Parents & Teachers and the Texas Elementary Principals 1-24 and Supervisors Association for his extensive contributions and 2-1 achievements; as a recognized authority in the field of public 2-2 education, he also was selected to participate in the Texas School 2-3 Improvement Initiative of the Texas Education Agency; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Throughout his career as an educator and 2-5 administrator, Emery S. Cathey has worked diligently to promote 2-6 excellence in the Texas public school system and his outstanding 2-7 accomplishments and dedication have significantly benefitted 2-8 generations of young Texans; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-10 Legislature hereby honor Emery S. Cathey on his remarkable career 2-11 in the field of education and extend to him warmest best wishes for 2-12 a very happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for Mr. Cathey as an expression of high regard by the 2-15 Texas House of Representatives.
