                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, While few track and field athletes are able to
    1-2  realize the dream of earning a state title in more than one event,
    1-3  fewer still can marshal the dedication and drive needed to
    1-4  duplicate such a phenomenal feat; among that elite group is Kim
    1-5  McGruder, a gifted young athlete who successfully defended her twin
    1-6  titles in the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints at the 1995
    1-7  University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Championships; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A model of consistency, this exceptional contender
    1-9  not only claimed back-to-back state titles in the 200 meter sprint,
   1-10  but also took her third consecutive state championship in the 100
   1-11  meter sprint; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, To dominate the events in which they compete over a
   1-13  span of years, athletes must possess ability, commitment, and the
   1-14  heart of a champion, and throughout her career Kim McGruder has
   1-15  truly exemplified these worthy attributes; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Kim McGruder is a remarkable young woman who has
   1-17  demonstrated exemplary dedication in pursuit of her goals; her
   1-18  energy, enthusiasm, and determination typify the finest qualities
   1-19  of our state's young people, and she is indeed worthy of
   1-20  legislative commendation and praise for her superb athletic
   1-21  achievements; now, therefore, be it
   1-22        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   1-23  Legislature hereby congratulate Kim McGruder on successfully
   1-24  defending her UIL state championships in the 100 meter and 200
    2-1  meter sprints by again claiming the titles in those events in 1995;
    2-2  and, be it further
    2-3        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-4  prepared for Ms. McGruder as an expression of high regard by the
    2-5  Texas House of Representatives.
