                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Santa Rosa Roundup of Vernon is one of the
    1-2  state's most anticipated annual events and 1995 marks the 50th
    1-3  anniversary of this unique celebration; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Founded in the mid-1940s by the late E. Paul
    1-5  Waggoner, who also built a superb facility for the event, the Santa
    1-6  Rosa Roundup has since developed into one of the nation's premier
    1-7  rodeos, boasting legendary rodeo stars and the finest bucking stock
    1-8  to be found anywhere; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Now sponsored by the Santa Rosa Palomino Club, this
   1-10  eagerly awaited spectacle's continued growth and popularity through
   1-11  the years is a credit to that fine organization as well as its many
   1-12  other supporters and participants who contribute to its resounding
   1-13  success each year; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The cowboy on horseback is an image universally
   1-15  associated with the State of Texas, and rodeo itself, which
   1-16  celebrates the skills and determination of these rugged
   1-17  individuals, has become an integral aspect of our state's heritage;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Many of the feats that make up the principal events
   1-20  in modern rodeo, including bareback and saddle bronc riding, calf
   1-21  roping, bull riding, and steer wrestling, were performed originally
   1-22  not as a means of entertainment but as a routine part of the work
   1-23  of a cattle roundup in the days of the open range; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Throughout its storied history, the Santa Rosa
    2-1  Roundup of Vernon has provided patrons with both exceptional
    2-2  entertainment and a glimpse of our frontier heritage and, on the
    2-3  occasion of the roundup's 50th anniversary, it is indeed
    2-4  appropriate that this truly Texan event be given special
    2-5  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby declare the week of May 14-20, 1995, as Santa
    2-8  Rosa Roundup Week in the State of Texas in commemoration of the
    2-9  event's 50th anniversary and commend the roundup's past and present
   2-10  sponsors, supporters, and fans for their vital support of this
   2-11  outstanding community event; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-13  prepared for the Santa Rosa Palomino Club as an expression of high
   2-14  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
