                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The recent passing of Juanita Tankersley on May 16,
    1-2  1995, at the age of 81, has brought a profound loss to the many
    1-3  friends, relatives, and former colleagues of this exceptional
    1-4  Texan; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Born in Robbins on December 3, 1913, Mrs. Tankersley
    1-6  was raised in Teague and attended schools in Freestone County
    1-7  before moving to Austin, where she attended Huston-Tillotson
    1-8  College; following her graduation from this distinguished
    1-9  institution, she embarked on a successful career as an educator
   1-10  that spanned more than four decades; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, An inspiration to all Texans who are devoted to
   1-12  improving the quality of education in the Lone Star State, this
   1-13  delightful individual won the admiration of students, parents, and
   1-14  colleagues alike for the dedication and patience she displayed each
   1-15  day in the classroom; Mrs. Tankersley provided guidance and support
   1-16  to hundreds of children through the years and, by the time of her
   1-17  retirement from Drane Middle School in Corsicana, had set new
   1-18  standards for excellence within the teaching profession; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Not only an outstanding educator, Mrs. Tankersley
   1-20  was a loving wife and mother as well; she took immense pride in her
   1-21  daughter, Deralyn, and enjoyed a happy and rewarding marriage with
   1-22  her husband, A. D. Tankersley, until his death in 1973; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know this exemplary
   1-24  woman will not soon forget the compassion and commitment she
    2-1  brought to each facet of her life; though her presence is gone from
    2-2  us now, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those
    2-3  whose lives she touched during her years on this earth; now,
    2-4  therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-6  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Juanita Tankersley
    2-7  and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family:  to her
    2-8  daughter, Deralyn Riles Davis of Fort Worth; to her grandchildren,
    2-9  Jefflyn Dorsai Davis and Jock Kevin Davis, both of Fort Worth; to
   2-10  her great-grandchildren, Christina Johnson, Jefferson Davis III,
   2-11  and Jordan Daniel Davis; and to her sisters, Cleo Mosley of Austin,
   2-12  Claudine Coulter of Fort Worth, and Mildred Benson of Sacramento,
   2-13  California; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
   2-16  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-17  Juanita Tankersley.
