H.R. No. 983 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The members of the Texas House of Representatives 1-2 take great pleasure in welcoming to the State Capitol several 1-3 representatives of the International Business Machines Corporation 1-4 (IBM), which has chosen Texas as the headquarters for both its RISC 1-5 System/6000 division and its personal software products division; 1-6 and 1-7 WHEREAS, Our distinguished guests from the personal software 1-8 products division include Lee Reiswig, general manager, Dan 1-9 Lautenbach, vice president of worldwide marketing, and Jo Ann 1-10 Sager, director of public relations; and 1-11 WHEREAS, IBM is currently celebrating the greatest success of 1-12 the latest release of the operating system software OS/2 Warp, 1-13 which has been selected as the overall 1994 Product of the Year by 1-14 the readers of Infoworld magazine, has won the Software Publishers 1-15 Association's highest award for best business software, and has 1-16 received five awards at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Continuing to be the world leader in the 32-bit 1-18 operating system arena, OS/2 has won 56 major industry awards, 1-19 fitting tributes to its technical excellence, usability, and 1-20 flexibility; and 1-21 WHEREAS, On May 19, 1995, the personal software products 1-22 division of IBM and its Austin site celebrate the shipping of the 1-23 two millionth copy of OS/2 Warp to be sold worldwide, and it is 2-1 indeed appropriate at this time that this exemplary company be 2-2 given special recognition and support for its many outstanding 2-3 economic and technical contributions to the Lone Star State; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The headquarters of IBM's OS/2 software division 2-5 demonstrates the commitment of Texas' private sector to make Texas 2-6 the technology capital and create high-wage jobs for its people; 2-7 now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby honor the employees and managers of IBM's 2-10 personal software products division on this significant milestone 2-11 in their corporation's history and recognize May 19, 1995, as OS/2 2-12 Warp Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for the International Business Machines Corporation as an 2-15 expression of high regard from the Texas House of Representatives.
