R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Wayne James has been selected by the Texas Society
1-2 of Association Executives as the 1995 recipient of the
1-3 Distinguished Executive Award, which is the highest honor that may
1-4 be bestowed on an association executive in Texas; and
1-5 WHEREAS, The executive director of the Texas Lathing and
1-6 Plastering Contractors Association since 1985, Mr. James is
1-7 receiving this prestigious honor in recognition of the outstanding
1-8 contributions he has made to his profession over the course of
1-9 nearly four decades as an association executive; a gifted
1-10 recruiter, he has significantly increased the ranks of the local,
1-11 state, and national professional societies he serves, enabling
1-12 these important organizations to flourish; and
1-13 WHEREAS, A native of Dallas County, he was born to Dalton and
1-14 Minnie James, and as a child attended a small three-teacher school
1-15 in DeSoto; he later attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock,
1-16 where he earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees and
1-17 gained his initial experience in the association field; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Beginning his career as the executive director of
1-19 the Texas Tech Ex-Student's Association in 1957, Mr. James provided
1-20 exceptional leadership to its members for more than two decades,
1-21 during which time the association pioneered the use of four-color
1-22 covers for its alumni magazine and won national acclaim for the
1-23 overall excellence of its numerous programs; and
1-24 WHEREAS, Following his accomplished tenure with the
2-1 ex-student's association, Mr. James went on to distinguish himself
2-2 in his field as the executive director of the Southwest Meat
2-3 Packers Association, as associate director of the Southwest
2-4 Hardware and Implement Association, and in his current role in
2-5 which he ably represents the interests of lathing and plastering
2-6 contractors in the state as the executive director of their dynamic
2-7 organization; in 1979, he realized an important professional
2-8 milestone with his designation as a Certified Association Executive
2-9 by the American Society of Association Executives; and
2-10 WHEREAS, A trusted friend and mentor to many of his
2-11 professional colleagues, he has won widespread respect and
2-12 admiration for the numerous projects he undertakes on behalf of
2-13 association members such as the monthly newsletter he began
2-14 publishing that lists job openings in the association field, which
2-15 he distributes free of charge to his peers; and
2-16 WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan is a recognized leader in his
2-17 field who has been tapped to share his considerable expertise with
2-18 state and national societies of association executives and has
2-19 served as a chief organizer of the Dallas-Fort Worth Society of
2-20 Association Executives, an organization he lent vital leadership to
2-21 as its president and as top membership recruiter for six
2-22 consecutive years; and
2-23 WHEREAS, An impressive four-time recipient of the Texas
2-24 Society of Association Executives' Calvin McIntosh Award for
2-25 membership development, Mr. James has been repeatedly recognized
2-26 for his extensive contributions to his profession and was honored
2-27 with the American Society of Association Executives' Winners Circle
3-1 Award in 1994; and
3-2 WHEREAS, On the domestic front, Mr. James resides in
3-3 Arlington with his wife, Peggy, with whom he enjoys a happy and
3-4 rewarding marriage that has served as a constant source of loving
3-5 support throughout his demanding career; and
3-6 WHEREAS, One of the foremost professionals in his field,
3-7 Wayne James has provided dynamic leadership to many association
3-8 executives in this state, and it is indeed fitting that he receive
3-9 special legislative recognition on the occasion of his most recent
3-10 achievement; now, therefore, be it
3-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
3-12 Legislature hereby congratulate Wayne James on his selection as the
3-13 1995 recipient of the Distinguished Executive Award by the Texas
3-14 Society of Association Executives and extend sincere best wishes to
3-15 him for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
3-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-17 prepared for Mr. James as an expression of highest regard by the
3-18 Texas House of Representatives.
