R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Officer Romeo Zapata of the Hidalgo County Juvenile
1-2 Probation Department was accorded a great honor recently when he
1-3 received the 1995 President's Award from the Texas Probation
1-4 Association; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Officer Zapata was chosen to receive this
1-6 prestigious accolade, which is the highest award bestowed by the
1-7 association, after careful consideration by the group's nearly 850
1-8 members from across the Lone Star State; his selection is
1-9 indicative of the success he has enjoyed throughout his career and
1-10 of the esteem in which he is held by his colleagues; and
1-11 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Edinburg, he earned both an
1-12 undergraduate degree in human services and a master's degree in
1-13 education from The University of Texas-Pan American; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to public service, Officer Zapata
1-15 has been a Hidalgo County juvenile probation officer for more than
1-16 13 years, and he currently serves as juvenile probation officer
1-17 supervisor; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Well regarded throughout his chosen profession, he
1-19 was recently elected to the Texas Probation Association's board of
1-20 directors, where he offers wise and thoughtful guidance on many
1-21 important criminal justice issues; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Officer Zapata's dedication to his community has
1-23 significantly benefited the residents of the Edinburg area, and he
1-24 is indeed deserving of special praise and recognition on the
2-1 occasion of his most recent honor; now, therefore, be it
2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-3 Legislature hereby congratulate Officer Romeo Zapata on his receipt
2-4 of the 1995 President's Award from the Texas Probation Association
2-5 and extend to him warmest best wishes for many more years of
2-6 continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-8 prepared for Officer Zapata as an expression of high regard by the
2-9 Texas House of Representatives.
