                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Lennijo Blair is retiring from her position as a
    1-2  member of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford School Board, bringing to a
    1-3  close an accomplished tenure with the board that is representative
    1-4  of her lifelong commitment to education within the district; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan's family has embraced the
    1-6  cause of education for four generations; her grandfather, who
    1-7  settled in East Texas in 1839, made the clearing of a portion of
    1-8  land for the construction of a schoolhouse one of his foremost
    1-9  priorities after his arrival in Texas; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Ms. Blair began her service with the
   1-11  Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District as a typing
   1-12  instructor, and while employed as a teacher, brought to her
   1-13  classrooms the same high degree of professionalism and dedication
   1-14  that have served as the hallmarks of all her endeavors throughout
   1-15  her years of teaching at Hurst Junior High School, Hurst-Euless
   1-16  High School, Harrison Lane Elementary School, and L. D. Bell High
   1-17  School; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Also endowed with a considerable talent for
   1-19  administration, Ms. Blair became principal of Stonegate Elementary
   1-20  School in 1971 and served with the utmost distinction in that
   1-21  capacity for 15 years; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, First elected to the Hurst-Euless-Bedford School
   1-23  Board in 1986, she won three terms on the board and served as its
   1-24  president from 1990 to 1992; among the board's many accomplishments
    2-1  during her tenure were the implementation of the KEYS program, the
    2-2  passage of two major bond packages, and the institution of
    2-3  counselors at elementary schools; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, She has maintained active memberships in a variety
    2-5  of education-related organizations as well, including the Classroom
    2-6  Teachers Association, which she served as president, and the Texas
    2-7  State Teachers Association; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Ms. Blair has garnered many well-deserved awards
    2-9  during her lifetime of service as an educator, including teacher of
   2-10  the year in 1966-1967, administrator of the year in 1976-1977 and
   2-11  1979-1980, and she also was chosen to receive the Friends of
   2-12  Education Award from the Texas Christian University Chapter of Phi
   2-13  Delta Kappa; and
   2-14        WHEREAS, Although she is retiring from the school board, she
   2-15  will continue to serve as an influential voice in the education
   2-16  community as president of the HEB Retired Teachers Association, as
   2-17  vice-president of the Region XI Retired Teachers Association, and
   2-18  as an active member of the HEB Educational Foundation; and
   2-19        WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, Lennijo Blair has
   2-20  selflessly devoted her efforts to improving the quality of
   2-21  education in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford area, and as she prepares for
   2-22  the many challenges yet to come, she can indeed look back with
   2-23  great satisfaction on her highly productive tenure with the
   2-24  Hurst-Euless-Bedford School Board; now, therefore, be it
   2-25        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-26  Legislature hereby commend Lennijo Blair for her exceptional tenure
   2-27  as a member of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford School Board and extend to
    3-1  her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her future
    3-2  endeavors; and, be it further
    3-3        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-4  prepared for Ms. Blair as an expression of high regard by the Texas
    3-5  House of Representatives.
