H.R. No. 993 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans 1-2 who have shared 50 happy and rewarding years of marriage is truly a 1-3 joyous occasion worthy of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Beauford and Retha Gorhum will have the privilege of 1-5 commemorating such a momentous event in their lives when they 1-6 celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on September 15, 1995; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, Like many of his generation, Mr. Gorhum answered his 1-9 country's call to arms during World War II and was a distinguished 1-10 member of the medical corps; this courageous Texan served at the 1-11 Battle of the Bulge, and when the war ended he was decorated for 1-12 his meritorious service; and 1-13 WHEREAS, After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Gorhum made their 1-14 home on a farm in Hidalgo County; in addition to farming, 1-15 Mr. Gorhum embarked on a career in mechanics, and he later opened 1-16 his own engine repair shop when the family moved to Jasper; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Despite the demands of running their farm and 1-18 managing the responsibilities of work and family, Mr. and 1-19 Mrs. Gorhum continually found time to spend with their children on 1-20 family fishing trips, travel, and church activities; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Their marriage was blessed with four sons, Johnny 1-22 Gorhum, Robert Gorhum, Wayne Gorhum, and David Massey, and in 1-23 recent years their loving family has grown to include nine 1-24 grandchildren; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Throughout their marriage, Mrs. Gorhum worked out of 2-2 their home in several different ventures, and she has generously 2-3 given of her time to her church; she often visits and assists 2-4 homebound members of her congregation, and she has been a great 2-5 help to her son Johnny in operating his small business; and 2-6 WHEREAS, For half a century, Beauford and Retha Gorhum have 2-7 shared a marriage filled with many happy times and cherished family 2-8 memories; built on a foundation of mutual love, trust, and respect, 2-9 their remarkable union has been an inspiration to their family and 2-10 friends and is indeed worthy of highest praise and recognition; 2-11 now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby congratulate Beauford and Retha Gorhum on the 2-14 momentous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to 2-15 them warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, 2-16 be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Gorhum as an expression of high regard by 2-19 the Texas House of Representatives.
