H.R. No. 995 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On June 12, 1995, Janie Baxter, Sarah Johnson, Geeta 1-2 Seth, and Marlena Whitford will be honored as recipients of the 1-3 Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, and their 1-4 success is indeed deserving of special recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, All of these accomplished young women are members of 1-6 the Permian Basin Girl Scout Council, and they will receive their 1-7 awards at the Statewide Girl Scout Gold Award Ceremony at the State 1-8 Capitol; a reception in their honor will be held afterward at the 1-9 Governor's Mansion, where Governor George Bush will give the 1-10 keynote address; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The Gold Award recognizes young women for their 1-12 commitment to themselves, their community, their world, and their 1-13 future; each candidate for this prestigious honor must complete an 1-14 intensive, four-month project that builds on the skills she has 1-15 learned throughout her years in Girl Scouting; and 1-16 WHEREAS, By encouraging young women to exercise leadership, 1-17 explore career opportunities, and discover more about themselves, 1-18 the Girl Scout program builds the confidence, self-awareness, and 1-19 community spirit of our future leaders; those who complete the 1-20 challenging requirements of the Gold Award demonstrate the 1-21 perseverance and discipline that are vital to success in life; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The maturity, dedication, and spirit exhibited by 1-23 these outstanding young women in pursuit of their goals truly 1-24 exemplify the noblest ideals of the Girl Scout program, and their 2-1 success in this endeavor is surely indicative of the great heights 2-2 they will aspire to and reach throughout their lives; now, 2-3 therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby honor the Gold Award recipients of the Permian 2-6 Basin Girl Scout Council and extend to them warmest best wishes for 2-7 success in all their future endeavors; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for them as an expression of highest regard by the Texas 2-10 House of Representatives.
