                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, On November 12, 1992, Antonio de la Rosa of El Paso
    1-2  responded to cries of alarm and helped save two El Paso police
    1-3  officers from serious injury or even death; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Mr. de la Rosa was watering his lawn when he heard a
    1-5  call for help; dropping his water hose, the retired father of six
    1-6  children ran toward the noise and saw two police officers
    1-7  struggling with a third individual in the street; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Realizing that one of the officers had lost a
    1-9  firearm to the suspect, Mr. de la Rosa intervened, and with no
   1-10  regard to his own personal safety, snagged the pistol from the
   1-11  suspect's hands and ended the struggle; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, While many people would have chosen to turn away
   1-13  from such a perilous scene or to wait for assistance from others,
   1-14  this remarkable gentleman responded immediately to the officers'
   1-15  dire situation and enabled them to escape this harrowing incident
   1-16  with their lives, and the admirable spirit of selflessness that he
   1-17  demonstrated on that day is indeed deserving of our highest praise
   1-18  and recognition; now, therefore, be it
   1-19        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   1-20  Legislature hereby commend Antonio de la Rosa for his bravery and
   1-21  public spirit in choosing to personally assist endangered police
   1-22  officers; and, be it further
   1-23        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   1-24  prepared for Mr. de la Rosa as an expression of appreciation by the
    2-1  Texas House of Representatives.
