R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Shirley Trevor will retire as founder and director
1-2 of Coker United Methodist Day School on May 27, 1995, drawing to a
1-3 close an exceptional career in the field of education that has
1-4 spanned 34 years; and
1-5 WHEREAS, The daughter of Sadie and Edward Jeske, Mrs. Trevor
1-6 was born February 8, 1929, and resides in San Antonio; and
1-7 WHEREAS, When she was a young woman, she wed David Hal Trevor
1-8 on August 5, 1950; the happy couple has enjoyed a deeply fulfilling
1-9 union that has been blessed with the birth of three cherished
1-10 children, David, Stephen, and Cheryl; and
1-11 WHEREAS, A devoted parent, she has demonstrated a deep and
1-12 abiding commitment to enhancing the educational opportunities in
1-13 her community, and in 1961 she founded Coker Day School; during
1-14 that same year, she was the school's only teacher and taught 14
1-15 pupils; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Word about the fine academic institution quickly
1-17 spread, and more parents enrolled their children in the school,
1-18 which later was renamed Coker United Methodist Day School; and
1-19 WHEREAS, In testament to Mrs. Trevor's astounding success as
1-20 both an educator and administrator, the school has continued to
1-21 flourish over the years, and it currently has a faculty of 12 and
1-22 boasts an enrollment of 150 students; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Despite her many professional responsibilities,
1-24 Mrs. Trevor still finds time in her busy schedule to enjoy her
2-1 favorite leisure time pursuits, including listening to music and
2-2 playing the piano; and
2-3 WHEREAS, This remarkable lady has served as an inspiring role
2-4 model to countless Texas youths both as a teacher and as a school
2-5 administrator, and her exceptional commitment to the children of
2-6 this state is indeed deserving of special recognition; now,
2-7 therefore, be it
2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-9 Legislature hereby honor Shirley Trevor for her outstanding service
2-10 as an educator and extend to her best wishes for a happy and
2-11 rewarding retirement; and, be it further
2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13 prepared for Mrs. Trevor as an expression of high regard by the
2-14 Texas House of Representatives.
