By McDonald H.R. No. 1007 74R13837 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Charles E. Black will soon retire from the nursery 1-2 business, thus ending his distinguished 49-year horticultural 1-3 career in the city of El Paso; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Tech University with a 1-5 bachelor's degree in horticulture, Mr. Black founded Black's 1-6 Nursery in 1946 and quickly became a respected leader in his field; 1-7 he joined the Texas Association of Nurserymen, Inc., in 1956, and 1-8 since then he has served as a board member, valued committee 1-9 member, and president of that fine organization; and 1-10 WHEREAS, He was recognized for his numerous contributions to 1-11 the industry as the 1972 recipient of the TAN-ARP award, which is 1-12 the most prestigious award bestowed by the Texas Association of 1-13 Nurserymen; his colleagues in that association again honored him in 1-14 1995 when they conferred on him the status of honorary member; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Throughout his many endeavors, Mr. Black has enjoyed 1-16 the love and support of his wife, JoAnn, and their children, Vicki 1-17 and Charles Black, Jr.; and 1-18 WHEREAS, An esteemed leader in our state's nursery industry 1-19 for nearly five decades, Charles E. Black is indeed deserving of 1-20 special praise and recognition on the occasion of his retirement; 1-21 now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 1-23 Legislature hereby honor Charles E. Black for his many 1-24 contributions to the field of horticulture and extend to him 2-1 warmest best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement; and, be 2-2 it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for Mr. Black as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-5 House of Representatives.
