No. 1018 74R13640 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Rosemary Kennedy on December 28, 1-2 1994, at the age of 68, has brought a great loss to the many 1-3 friends and relatives of this beloved Texan; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Houston, she was born 1-5 February 25, 1926, and early on dedicated herself to a life of 1-6 religious, family, and community service; and 1-7 WHEREAS, She was a graduate of the University of St. Thomas 1-8 and distinguished herself through her 41 years of service to 1-9 Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, a career that she began while 1-10 still a senior in high school; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Highly regarded by her colleagues for her hard work, 1-12 professionalism, and dedication, Ms. Kennedy was a lifetime member 1-13 of the Communication Workers of America; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Throughout her career, she maintained a deep and 1-15 abiding commitment to her community and gave generously of her 1-16 time, talents, and resources for the benefit of several worthy 1-17 causes; vitally concerned with health care issues, she was a member 1-18 of St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and also volunteered with the 1-19 Diocesan AIDS Ministry, and she was honored for her exemplary 1-20 service as Volunteer of the Year in 1993; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Ms. Kennedy also was well regarded in political 1-22 circles for her dedicated service to the Democratic Party, and as 1-23 executive committeeman for her precinct, she worked tirelessly to 1-24 encourage her neighbors to vote in all elections; an esteemed 2-1 member of Harris County Democrats, she was honored by the group 2-2 with its Frankie Award in 1992; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Keenly aware of the value of a good education, she 2-4 earned a certificate to become a reading tutor, and for three 2-5 years, generously offered to help fellow Houstonians improve their 2-6 reading skills; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Ms. Kennedy also offered her support to efforts that 2-8 addressed neighborhood safety issues and was an active member of 2-9 Glenbrook Valley Citizens on Patrol; and 2-10 WHEREAS, This exceptional woman touched the lives of many 2-11 people during her lifetime, and though her presence will be deeply 2-12 missed, her memory will endure in the hearts and minds of all those 2-13 who came to know and love her; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-15 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rosemary Kennedy and 2-16 extend sincere sympathy to her many friends and relatives; and, be 2-17 it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for the members of her family and that when the House of 2-20 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rosemary 2-21 Kennedy.
