                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of James M. Curtis, Sr., on August 18,
    1-2  1994, at the age of 58, deeply saddened the many friends and
    1-3  relatives of this esteemed gentleman; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born on October 11, 1935, in
    1-5  Fort Worth to Victor and Julia Curtis, and moved as a small child
    1-6  to Dallas, of which he remained a lifelong resident; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, After obtaining his diploma from Woodrow Wilson High
    1-8  School, Mr. Curtis furthered his education at Baylor University in
    1-9  Waco before embarking on his successful career, during the course
   1-10  of which he owned and operated three medical laboratories and
   1-11  conducted research at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Despite his demanding professional life, Mr. Curtis
   1-13  was above all else a devoted family man; he enjoyed a rewarding
   1-14  marriage of 40 years duration with his beloved wife, Mary Ruth
   1-15  McCarthy Curtis, and was an active participant in the lives of his
   1-16  children and their families, including Deborah Ann and John Carona,
   1-17  Mary Margaret and Trent Scarborough, Susan Curtis, John Joseph and
   1-18  Sheila Curtis, the late James M. Curtis, Jr., Joey Carona, Jeff
   1-19  Carona, and Will Carona, Michael Scarborough, Matt Scarborough,
   1-20  Evan Curtis, and Trevor Curtis; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Devoted to his community as well, he coached YMCA
   1-22  football and baseball, served as president of the North Dallas
   1-23  Lions Club and Hill Junior High School PTA, was a precinct
   1-24  chairman, and was an involved member of the First Baptist Church of
    2-1  Dallas, where he taught Sunday School and sponsored the Youth
    2-2  Choir; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, James Curtis was blessed with the rare ability to
    2-4  give of himself, a gift he expressed through his friendships, his
    2-5  community service, and his positive approach to life; though his
    2-6  presence is deeply missed by all who were privileged to know him,
    2-7  the memory of this remarkable gentleman endures in the hearts of
    2-8  the many people whose lives he touched during his years on this
    2-9  earth; now, therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James M. Curtis, Sr.,
   2-12  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his
   2-13  wife, Mary Ruth McCarthy Curtis; to his children and their spouses,
   2-14  Deborah Ann and John Carona, Mary Margaret and Trent Scarborough,
   2-15  Susan Curtis, and John Joseph and Sheila Curtis; to his
   2-16  grandchildren, Joey, Jeff, and Will Carona, Michael and Matt
   2-17  Scarborough, and Evan and Trevor Curtis; and to his many other
   2-18  friends and relatives; and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-20  for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of
   2-21  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James M.
   2-22  Curtis, Sr.
