                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  Rabbi Steven Folberg on the occasion of his 10th year in the
    1-3  rabbinate; he will be honored for his many contributions to the
    1-4  Jewish faith at a celebration during the weekend of June 9-11,
    1-5  1995; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Rabbi Folberg received his undergraduate degree in
    1-7  psychology from La Salle College in Philadelphia, and he pursued
    1-8  his interest in the rabbinate after attending the prestigious
    1-9  Hillel summer institute, where he met some of the country's leading
   1-10  rabbis; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, After studying at Hebrew Union College, he was
   1-12  ordained into the rabbinate and began serving with Rabbi Jerome
   1-13  Davidson on Long Island, where he offered comfort and spiritual
   1-14  guidance to that congregation for six years; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Rabbi Folberg and his bride, Saundra Goldman,  moved
   1-16  from New York to Austin four years ago to find a new community in
   1-17  which to start their lives together and in which the rabbi could
   1-18  lead his first solo congregation; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Since then, Rabbi Folberg has had a profound effect
   1-20  on the religious community in Austin as the spiritual leader of
   1-21  Congregation Beth Israel; a warm and caring man, he has greatly
   1-22  enjoyed the interpersonal contact of his work and has offered
   1-23  empathy and guidance to the members of that temple during
   1-24  significant phases of their lives; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, An eminent scholar as well, he has sought to share
    2-2  his faith with others as a teacher, and he will reach countless
    2-3  youngsters through his most recent work, Pass the Torah, Please, a
    2-4  middle school text about Jewish heroes and values; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Throughout his life in the rabbinate, Rabbi
    2-6  Folberg's boundless compassion and religious guidance have provided
    2-7  comfort and spiritual support to countless individuals, and he is
    2-8  indeed worthy of our highest praise and recognition as he
    2-9  celebrates 10 years of service to the Jewish faith; now, therefore,
   2-10  be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby honor Rabbi Steven Folberg for his contributions
   2-13  to the religious community and extend to him warmest best wishes on
   2-14  the occasion of his 10th year in the rabbinate; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-16  prepared for Rabbi Folberg as an expression of high esteem by the
   2-17  Texas House of Representatives.
