                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Cathy Barthelemy has been named Teacher of the Year
    1-2  for 1995 by the Carroll Independent School District (ISD), and this
    1-3  special recognition is indeed well deserved; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Ms. Barthelemy earned her bachelor's degree in early
    1-5  childhood education from Texas Tech University and obtained her
    1-6  teaching certification from Texas Woman's University; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, She began her outstanding career in the field of
    1-8  education in California, where she taught for more than a decade
    1-9  before relocating with her husband and three daughters to Texas and
   1-10  settling in the community of Southlake; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Since accepting a position as a second grade teacher
   1-12  and science chairwoman with Jack D. Johnson Elementary School in
   1-13  1987, Ms. Barthelemy has striven to awaken talent in each of her
   1-14  students by encouraging them to do their best, to ask questions and
   1-15  feel secure enough to take risks, and to kindle their minds with a
   1-16  passion for learning; she also emphasizes the importance of respect
   1-17  for oneself and others and concern for the environment each day;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, In addition, this remarkable educator seeks to
   1-20  instill in her students the self-confidence and independence that
   1-21  comes with learning to read and write and understanding mathematics
   1-22  and science, and has instituted many innovative programs in her
   1-23  classroom to aid in the development of their critical thinking
    2-1  skills; nominated for receipt of the Presidential Award for Science
    2-2  and Math Teachers, she also earned a grant from the Fort Worth
    2-3  Star-Telegram for her stewardship of the school's Living Science
    2-4  Center; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Outside the classroom setting, Ms. Barthelemy has
    2-6  given generously of her time and talents to serve on the Carroll
    2-7  ISD District Advisory Committee, the Carroll ISD Parent-Teacher
    2-8  Organization, and as a Sunday school teacher and church school
    2-9  director for St. Laurence Episcopal Church of Southlake; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, During her tenure with Carroll ISD, Cathy Barthelemy
   2-11  has earned a special place in the hearts of many of her students
   2-12  and the respect and admiration of the Southlake community, and she
   2-13  truly merits praise and commendation on the occasion of her most
   2-14  recent achievement; now, therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-16  Legislature hereby congratulate Cathy Barthelemy on being named
   2-17  1995 Teacher of the Year by the Carroll Independent School District
   2-18  and extend sincere best wishes to her for continued success and
   2-19  happiness in the years to come; and, be it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-21  prepared for Ms. Barthelemy as an expression of high regard by the
   2-22  Texas House of Representatives.
