No. 1032 74R13712 KMP-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Sandra Beckett will soon retire from an illustrious 1-2 career in education that has spanned two decades, and her 1-3 intelligence, patience, and warmth will be greatly missed by 1-4 students and colleagues alike; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born September 10, 1939, Mrs. Beckett was raised in 1-6 Edinburg and was a dedicated and enthusiastic member of the local 1-7 Girl Scouts chapter and high school cheerleading squad; her 1-8 interest in education and passion for learning blossomed when she 1-9 attended Trinity University in San Antonio, where she supported her 1-10 studies in language and literature by grading papers for the 1-11 English department and by working as a model with many well-known 1-12 San Antonio photographers, a job that in 1958 helped her represent 1-13 her school at the Miss Fiesta pageant; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Beckett completed her undergraduate studies in 1-15 English and history at Southern Illinois University and earned her 1-16 master's degree from Southwest Texas State University, 1-17 distinguishing herself as a talented scholar, historian, and 1-18 teacher over the course of a remarkable 20-year journey as a 1-19 professional educator; a preeminent citizen in her community, she 1-20 also is a devoted and loving mother whose two children have both 1-21 gone on to enjoy successful careers in mechanical engineering; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Mrs. Beckett is an inspiration to Texans everywhere 1-23 who have devoted themselves to improving the quality of education 1-24 in this state, and her many outstanding accomplishments are indeed 2-1 worthy of special legislative recognition at this time; now, 2-2 therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby congratulate Sandra Beckett on the occasion of 2-5 her retirement from teaching and extend to her warmest best wishes 2-6 for continued happiness in her future endeavors; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for Mrs. Beckett as an expression of high esteem by the 2-9 Texas House of Representatives.
