H.R. No. 1034 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Charlene Fundis will soon leave her position as a 1-2 teacher at New Braunfels Middle School, and she will be sorely 1-3 missed by her students and colleagues there; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Oklahoma, Ms. Fundis was the youngest of 1-5 five daughters born to Charles E. and Mary Caroline Dawson Fundis; 1-6 a bright and fun-loving girl, she inspired awe in her friends as a 1-7 trick-riding bicycle artist and often transformed herself into 1-8 Wonder Woman, using a strand of gold Christmas garland as her 1-9 trusty magic lasso; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Unfortunately, school unfairly cut into the fun she 1-11 was having, so as a third grader she attempted to convince her 1-12 teacher that, since her daddy was on the school board, she did not 1-13 need to practice her reading skills; this innovative approach 1-14 failed to persuade her teacher, however, and Ms. Fundis thereafter 1-15 applied herself diligently to her studies; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Her hard work paid off when she graduated first in 1-17 her class from Wanette High School, and she went on to become the 1-18 fifth daughter in her family to graduate from Oklahoma State 1-19 University; she then embarked on her career in education, and she 1-20 has won the hearts of countless students with her imaginative and 1-21 enthusiastic teaching style; and 1-22 WHEREAS, An avid dancer and artist, this remarkable woman has 1-23 received numerous art honors, and she also finds time to pursue her 1-24 interests in genealogy, restoration, and alternative medicine, 2-1 including traditional Native American remedies; her unique approach 2-2 to life has earned her the admiration and friendship of all who 2-3 know her, and it has also earned her the intriguing title "Queen of 2-4 the Mushroom" at New Braunfels Middle School; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Her newest venture will take her home to Oklahoma to 2-6 assume the management of her family's cattle ranch, and her many 2-7 friends in Texas hope that this will be yet another adventurous and 2-8 fulfilling chapter in her life; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-10 Legislature hereby honor Charlene Fundis for her service to New 2-11 Braunfels Middle School and extend to her warmest best wishes for 2-12 success and happiness in all her future endeavors; and, be it 2-13 further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for Ms. Fundis as an expression of high regard by the 2-16 Texas House of Representatives.
