                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  Kent Ewing for being named the 1995 Texas High School Principal of
    1-3  the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals;
    1-4  and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Mr. Ewing has capably served as principal of James
    1-6  Bowie High School since the school was founded seven years ago, and
    1-7  he has worked tirelessly to make this southwest Austin academic
    1-8  institution one of the best high schools and support facilities in
    1-9  the country; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, His encouragement and active involvement in a host
   1-11  of areas have developed a sense of pride and commitment that has
   1-12  spread among the school's students and staff and throughout the
   1-13  local community as well; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, A dynamic and effective leader, he has been
   1-15  instrumental in the high school's earning national acclaim; Bowie
   1-16  High School has been honored by the U.S. Department of Education
   1-17  with its Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award and was recognized
   1-18  by Redbook magazine as a School of Excellence; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Mr. Ewing's successful efforts also have earned his
   1-20  school a well-deserved reputation as both a center for learning and
   1-21  a safe haven for all of its students; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, His inherent respect for each individual, his
   1-23  genuine care for his students, and his support for the school's
   1-24  staff are all reflected in the school's motto, "Pride of
    2-1  Performance," and his familiar reminder to his students, "You are
    2-2  the finest student body ever assembled," echoes throughout the
    2-3  campus and in the memories of the school's alumni; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Truly a leader in his chosen field, Mr. Ewing has
    2-5  worked tirelessly to enhance the quality of education in the Austin
    2-6  community, and he is indeed worthy of special praise and
    2-7  recognition on the occasion of his most recent honor; now,
    2-8  therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-10  Legislature hereby congratulate Kent Ewing on being named Texas
   2-11  High School Principal of the Year and commend him for his many
   2-12  significant contributions to the field of education; and, be it
   2-13  further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for Mr. Ewing as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-16  House of Representatives.
