                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Throughout its rich history, the Tyler Salvation
    1-2  Army has provided a variety of services designed to give comfort
    1-3  and support to individuals in need of a helping hand and, under the
    1-4  able leadership of Captain and Mrs. Jim Lawrence, the organization
    1-5  continues to serve as a beacon of hope to local citizens undergoing
    1-6  difficult times; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Area residents who are homeless or unemployed are
    1-8  eligible for assistance from the Salvation Army's social service
    1-9  program and through this necessary lifeline can obtain help with
   1-10  meeting such basic needs as food, mortgage, rent, utility payments,
   1-11  medicine, and clothing; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The Tyler Salvation Army operated a successful
   1-13  thrift store and recently opened a second location in a venture
   1-14  that not only provides necessary financial support to the
   1-15  organization, but also allows shoppers to purchase useful items at
   1-16  reasonable prices; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, One of the organization's other worthy endeavors is
   1-18  the Smith County Christmas Clearinghouse, an effort that is held in
   1-19  conjunction with PATH and which provides needy families with food
   1-20  and gifts during the Christmas holiday season; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Among the many other services and facilities
   1-22  provided by the Tyler Salvation Army are a guest house, a family
   1-23  shelter center, camping sessions for needy youth and senior
   1-24  citizens, a mobile canteen, the William Booth Gardens apartments
    2-1  for senior citizens, and Tysen House, a nonprofit retirement home;
    2-2  and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Volunteers from the Tyler Salvation Army also visit
    2-4  hospitals and rest homes on a regular basis, bringing happiness and
    2-5  companionship to patients in those facilities; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, The Tyler Salvation Army has faithfully ministered
    2-7  to the physical and spiritual needs of many local citizens,
    2-8  providing vital services to those that might otherwise go without
    2-9  them, and its many accomplishments in this regard are truly worthy
   2-10  of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby commend the Tyler Salvation Army for its many
   2-13  significant contributions to the betterment of its community and
   2-14  extend to this esteemed organization best wishes for continued
   2-15  success in the future; and, be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-17  prepared for the Tyler Salvation Army as an expression of high
   2-18  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
