                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  William F. Bailey Elementary School in Pasadena for its outstanding
    1-3  service to the youth of its community; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, William F. Bailey Elementary School was founded in
    1-5  1958 to fill a growing need for quality primary education in the
    1-6  Pasadena Independent School District; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, In testament to its distinguished professional
    1-8  reputation, the school has been served by only three principals in
    1-9  the course of its 37 years; Mr. Martin Van Sickle guided the
   1-10  institution through its first 17 years, and Mrs. Jeanette Bradley
   1-11  took the helm for nearly 20 years before Mrs. Karyn Johnson was
   1-12  named her successor in the fall of 1994; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The school offers its students a remarkable array of
   1-14  opportunities to develop their artistic talents, and it is the only
   1-15  elementary school in the district to feature a student choir,
   1-16  orchestra, and band; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Bailey Elementary School has also earned renown for
   1-18  its innovative and highly effective "Right Choice Program," which
   1-19  was developed by former principal Jeanette Bradley; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, This program helps youths take personal
   1-21  responsibility for their actions and enhances self-esteem by
   1-22  teaching them that they have a choice in everything they do; the
   1-23  program rewards students for the positive choices they make and
   1-24  gives them the opportunity to correct inappropriate decisions; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The "Right Choice Program" has helped the school
    2-2  become a success story in Texas education, and its many benefits
    2-3  are evidenced by improvements in students' behavior and learning
    2-4  abilities; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Bailey Elementary School could not have achieved the
    2-6  success that it has today were it not for its devoted
    2-7  administrators and staff, who work tirelessly to make every student
    2-8  a winner; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-10  Legislature hereby honor William F. Bailey Elementary School for
   2-11  the vital service it provides to the Pasadena community and commend
   2-12  the many dedicated and caring individuals who have made William F.
   2-13  Bailey the exceptional academic institution that it is today; and,
   2-14  be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-16  prepared for prominent display at William F. Bailey Elementary
   2-17  School as an expression of high esteem by the Texas House of
   2-18  Representatives.
