No. 1054 74R13539 KMP-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Patricia Ann Autrey Hawkins will retire from the 1-2 Pasadena Independent School District on May 29, 1995, bringing to a 1-3 close an illustrious career as an educator that has spanned more 1-4 than three decades; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born in Red Water, Texas, on July 22, 1938, 1-6 Mrs. Hawkins is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter O. Autrey, two 1-7 exceptional Texans who devoted their lives to educational 1-8 instruction and administration; following her graduation from high 1-9 school in 1955, she attended the University of Houston and Sam 1-10 Houston State Teachers College, where she earned her bachelor's 1-11 degree in 1959, and she later furthered her education at Southwest 1-12 Texas State Teachers College, which awarded her a master's degree; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hawkins embarked on her long and distinguished 1-15 career as an educator in 1959, when she gained employment with the 1-16 Houston Independent School District; shortly thereafter, she joined 1-17 the staff of the Pasadena Independent School District and, 1-18 throughout the ensuing years, has earned the admiration and respect 1-19 of countless students at Red Bluff Elementary School and Bailey 1-20 Elementary School; and 1-21 WHEREAS, This exemplary teacher has been an active member of 1-22 several professional and education-related organizations, including 1-23 the Parent-Teacher Association, the Texas State Teachers 1-24 Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma; in addition to serving as a 2-1 grade-level chairman at Bailey Elementary School, Mrs. Hawkins has 2-2 taken a leading role in shaping the course of public education in 2-3 Pasadena through her work with school faculty committees; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Known to all for the energy and enthusiasm she 2-5 brings to each one of her many activities, Mrs. Hawkins has made 2-6 many invaluable contributions toward making Pasadena a better place 2-7 in which to live and raise a family; a devoted member of the First 2-8 United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school classes for 2-9 many years, she also has worked closely with the Pasadena Junior 2-10 Forum in providing assistance to handicapped and disabled children; 2-11 and 2-12 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hawkins enjoys a rewarding marriage with her 2-13 husband of 33 years, Sam, who teaches at San Jacinto College; their 2-14 son Malcolm is a Houston businessman, while daughter Melissa has 2-15 followed in her parents' and grandparents' footsteps to become a 2-16 teacher with the Amarillo Independent School District; and 2-17 WHEREAS, Following her retirement, Mrs. Hawkins plans to 2-18 continue her volunteer work and to pursue her many hobbies, which 2-19 include cooking, sewing, and traveling; she also is looking forward 2-20 with great anticipation to the month of June, when she will welcome 2-21 her first grandchild into the world; and 2-22 WHEREAS, Patricia Hawkins is a true inspiration to all 2-23 teachers, students, and citizens devoted to improving the quality 2-24 of education in this state, and her many remarkable personal and 2-25 professional accomplishments indeed merit special legislative 2-26 recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-27 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 3-1 Legislature hereby commend Patricia Ann Autrey Hawkins on the 3-2 occasion of her retirement from the Pasadena Independent School 3-3 District and extend to her warmest best wishes for continued 3-4 happiness and success in her future endeavors; and, be it further 3-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-6 prepared for Mrs. Hawkins as an expression of high regard by the 3-7 Texas House of Representatives.
