                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The State of Texas has lost a distinguished Texan
    1-2  with the passing of the Honorable Max W. Boyer on May 3, 1995, at
    1-3  the age of 89; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Born in Morrison, Oklahoma, Judge Boyer attended the
    1-5  University of Oklahoma and continued his studies at the University
    1-6  of Oklahoma School of Law and Cumberland Law School in Lebanon,
    1-7  Tennessee, where he received his law degree; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Admitted to the Oklahoma State Bar in 1929, he
    1-9  joined the Texas State Bar the following year and resided in the
   1-10  community of Perryton from 1929 until 1974, when he moved to San
   1-11  Antonio; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, This highly regarded gentleman began his career in
   1-13  public service as Ochiltree County attorney and quickly won the
   1-14  respect and admiration of his colleagues through his keen intellect
   1-15  and incisive grasp of legal issues; known for the excellence of his
   1-16  work, he was soon elected to higher office and served area citizens
   1-17  as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1937 to
   1-18  1941; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Returning to his post as county attorney after two
   1-20  successful terms in the house, he later worked in private practice
   1-21  and as Perryton city attorney until his appointment in 1957 to fill
   1-22  the vacant post of 84th District judge; for nearly two decades,
   1-23  Judge Boyer set the highest standards of professionalism on the
   1-24  bench, which he demonstrated through his characteristic integrity,
    2-1  willingness to work hard, and innate sense of justice; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Judge Boyer also served his profession as the first
    2-3  president of the Northeast Panhandle Bar Association, as a member
    2-4  of the executive committee of the State Bar of Texas' judicial
    2-5  section, and through his chairmanship of the 18th Congressional
    2-6  District Grievance Committee of the State Bar; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Equally accomplished in the civic arena, Judge Boyer
    2-8  was a director of the Interstate Savings and Loan Association of
    2-9  Perryton and enjoyed the company of an extensive circle of friends
   2-10  that he made through many years of participation in the Masonic
   2-11  Lodge, the Lions Club, the First United Methodist Church in
   2-12  Perryton, and Wincrest United Methodist Church in San Antonio; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Judge Boyer enjoyed
   2-14  the love and support of his wife, Addye, with whom he shared a very
   2-15  happy marriage of more than 50 years' duration until her passing in
   2-16  1984; his marriage also was blessed with a fine son, Don; and
   2-17        WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Judge Boyer exemplified the
   2-18  highest standards of excellence, leadership, and dedication to the
   2-19  ideal of justice; though he will be deeply missed by all who were
   2-20  privileged to know him, his spirit will surely live on in the
   2-21  hearts of the many people whose lives he touched during his years
   2-22  on this earth; now, therefore, be it
   2-23        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-24  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the Honorable Max W. Boyer and
   2-25  extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family:  to his
   2-26  son, Don Boyer of San Antonio; to his five grandchildren and two
   2-27  great-grandchildren; to his niece, Billie Taylor of Perryton; and
    3-1  to the many other friends and relatives of this fine man; and, be
    3-2  it further
    3-3        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-4  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
    3-5  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
    3-6  an esteemed former member of this chamber, Judge Max Boyer.
