R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Rene Ruth Stewart of Sterling
1-2 City on May 12, 1995, at the age of 25, has brought a great loss to
1-3 the many friends and relatives of this lovely young lady; and
1-4 WHEREAS, The daughter of LeRuth and Danny Stewart,
1-5 Ms. Stewart was born October 4, 1969, in Sterling County and was
1-6 heir to a proud family legacy; the descendants of pioneer ranchers,
1-7 she and her family were partners in the Reed and Stewart Ranch; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Ms. Stewart excelled in ranching activities at an
1-9 early age, and as a youngster, she was involved in numerous
1-10 agricultural and ranching organizations; and
1-11 WHEREAS, A member of the 4-H Club for 10 years, she
1-12 contributed to the organization in numerous ways, and she served as
1-13 local and district president and also served with distinction on
1-14 the state 4-H Council; in recognition of her many contributions,
1-15 she was awarded the Gold Star Award and both the State Fair of
1-16 Texas and the San Antonio Rural Youth Honoree awards, and she also
1-17 won a college scholarship from the Houston Livestock Show and
1-18 Rodeo; and
1-19 WHEREAS, During her years at Sterling City High School, she
1-20 was active and distinguished herself in a wide variety of
1-21 activities, including cheerleading, sports, and acting; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Ms. Stewart graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M
1-23 University with a bachelor's degree in animal science in 1992, and
1-24 she went on to earn her master's degree in agricultural development
2-1 from that school as well; in the course of her studies, she
2-2 received a fellowship to work for the Texas A&M Development
2-3 Foundation and merited inclusion in Who's Who Among American
2-4 Colleges and Universities; and
2-5 WHEREAS, She began her professional career in 1993 as a farm
2-6 broadcaster with Roddy Peeples on the Voice of the Southwest Radio
2-7 Network; she greatly enjoyed her work there as it provided the
2-8 added bonuses of travelling and making new friends in both the
2-9 agricultural community and the National Farm Broadcasters
2-10 Association; and
2-11 WHEREAS, A woman of boundless energy, enthusiasm, and
2-12 compassion, Ms. Stewart gave tirelessly of herself for the
2-13 betterment of her community, and she volunteered with the
2-14 Lighthouse for the Blind, the American Heart Association, Special
2-15 Olympics, and the American Cancer Society, to name but a few; and
2-16 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in the love and
2-17 friendship of this exceptional young woman will long miss her
2-18 presence; though her life has been cut tragically short, her unique
2-19 spirit will surely live on in the hearts of those whose lives she
2-20 touched; now, therefore, be it
2-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-22 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rene Ruth Stewart and
2-23 extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: to her
2-24 parents, LeRuth and Danny Stewart; to her brother and
2-25 sister-in-law, Reed and Ronda Stewart; to her grandparents, Ruth
2-26 and Nolan Stewart and Cecile McDonald; to her aunts, uncles, and
2-27 cousins; and to her many other friends and relatives; and, be it
3-1 further
3-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-3 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
3-4 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
3-5 Rene Ruth Stewart.
