H.R. No. 1073 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, This year marks the 40th anniversary of Leonard's & 1-2 Margaret's in Giddings, one of the premier clothing stores in the 1-3 area; and 1-4 WHEREAS, On May 6, 1955, Leonard's Men's Wear conducted its 1-5 grand opening and quickly became a success, which was reflected by 1-6 the addition of a line of children's apparel the next year; 1-7 Margaret's, a ladies' dress shop, opened in 1957, and the two 1-8 operated as separate businesses until 1977 when they merged to 1-9 become Leonard's & Margaret's, Inc., Family Fashion Center; and 1-10 WHEREAS, In 1965 this thriving business relocated from 1-11 downtown Giddings to a site on Highway 290 on the east side of town 1-12 and, in its expansive new building, continued to maintain the 1-13 remarkable standards of service that had earned it the loyalty of 1-14 its many satisfied customers throughout its history; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Leonard's & Margaret's is also renowned for its 1-16 sponsorship of many extravagant style shows that, in addition to 1-17 delighting patrons, serve to benefit many worthy community causes 1-18 as well; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Among the faithful and friendly employees who have 1-20 ably seen to customers' needs at Leonard's & Margaret's have been 1-21 Vera Weigelt, Flora Sump, Clara Vahrenkamp, Delores Smith, Raymond 1-22 Machac, Ira Bell Bathe, Ruby Herzog, Donna Moerbe, Angela Kauffman, 1-23 and Gretchen Rodstrom, each of whom has made substantial 1-24 contributions to the store's overall success; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Those individuals who consistently provide their 2-2 customers with fine merchandise and knowledgeable help perform a 2-3 vital role in their community, and their considerable service to 2-4 their fellow citizens is truly worthy of special legislative 2-5 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate Leonard's & Margaret's on 40 years 2-8 of sterling service to the citizens of Giddings and the surrounding 2-9 communities and extend to the owners of that fine enterprise best 2-10 wishes for continued success in all their endeavors; and, be it 2-11 further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Leonard and Margaret Kriegel as an expression of high 2-14 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
