                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Joe Cortez is retiring from his position as a
    1-2  teacher and coach at Central Catholic High School in San Antonio,
    1-3  drawing to a close a distinguished tenure with that fine
    1-4  institution that has spanned 36 years; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan has not only served the needs
    1-6  of students as a teacher of social studies and physical education
    1-7  at Central Catholic High School but also was coach of the
    1-8  basketball, football, and baseball teams and, for 25 years, held
    1-9  the demanding position of athletic director; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Mr. Cortez has received many prestigious accolades
   1-11  in recognition of his outstanding coaching achievements through the
   1-12  years, including the National Association of Basketball Coaches
   1-13  Honor Award for winning 500 games and the National Association of
   1-14  Basketball Coaches Merit Award; in addition, he has been honored on
   1-15  three occasions as all-star game coach for the Texas Association of
   1-16  Basketball Coaches/Optimist Club; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, For nearly four decades, Joe Cortez has tirelessly
   1-18  devoted his time and energies to the betterment of the students at
   1-19  Central Catholic High School and, as he begins his well-deserved
   1-20  retirement, he can indeed look back with tremendous pride and
   1-21  satisfaction on his exemplary career as a coach and educator; now,
   1-22  therefore, be it
   1-23        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   1-24  Legislature hereby congratulate Joe Cortez on his exceptional
    2-1  tenure as a teacher and coach at Central Catholic High School and
    2-2  extend sincere best wishes to him for a happy and rewarding
    2-3  retirement; and, be it further
    2-4        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-5  prepared for Mr. Cortez as an expression of high regard by the
    2-6  Texas House of Representatives.
