                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Multi-Ethnic Heritage Foundation has
    1-2  demonstrated an abiding commitment to promoting cultural diversity
    1-3  in the arts, and their annual Cultural Philanthropy Awards program
    1-4  has succeeded in focusing public attention on the contributions of
    1-5  multicultural artists in our society; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Known as the Cup Awards, this popular and successful
    1-7  awards program was created to honor individuals and corporations
    1-8  who have made significant contributions to multi-ethnic visual and
    1-9  performing artists and cultural organizations; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, A nonprofit group working creatively to foster
   1-11  better understanding and cooperation among people of different
   1-12  cultures and ethnic backgrounds, the Multi-Ethnic Heritage
   1-13  Foundation sponsors the event in conjunction with other members of
   1-14  the community who are committed to the arts and to promoting
   1-15  cultural awareness; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, During the awards ceremony, presentations are made
   1-17  to corporations and individuals in several different industries,
   1-18  including such varied fields as retail, banking, consumer goods,
   1-19  and entertainment, and award presentations are interspersed with
   1-20  performances by talented multi-ethnic artists; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, An exciting highlight of the awards program, these
   1-22  performance segments also provide an excellent opportunity for the
   1-23  artists to showcase their talents, celebrate cultural diversity,
   1-24  and encourage an increased commitment to the arts by members of the
    2-1  audience; scheduled performers at past Cup Award shows have
    2-2  included such diverse talent as the Omari African Drummers and the
    2-3  Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, This worthwhile event has brought people from a wide
    2-5  variety of backgrounds and professions together in a mutual effort
    2-6  to support multi-ethnic visual and performing artists and cultural
    2-7  organizations; the dedication and creative inspiration of its many
    2-8  participants and sponsors are having a positive impact on the arts
    2-9  community, and those participants are indeed deserving of special
   2-10  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby commend the Multi-Ethnic Heritage Foundation and
   2-13  other participating sponsors of the Cultural Philanthropy Awards
   2-14  for their outstanding contributions to the arts and their
   2-15  unwavering commitment to furthering cultural understanding in our
   2-16  state; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-18  prepared for the Multi-Ethnic Heritage Foundation as an expression
   2-19  of high esteem by the Texas House of Representatives.
