                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Over the course of an impressive career that has
    1-2  spanned more than a quarter of a century, Laredo Border Patrol
    1-3  Chief Jose E. Garza has helped to make the Lone Star State a safer
    1-4  and more secure place for Texas citizens; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A Vietnam veteran who served six years with the
    1-6  United States Navy, this respected officer rose quickly within the
    1-7  ranks of the law enforcement profession to become one of the
    1-8  state's leading authorities on border security issues; under his
    1-9  able leadership, Laredo's border control system has been a
   1-10  remarkable success, enabling American agents to better prevent
   1-11  illegal crossings and drug traffic and serving as a model for
   1-12  border patrol units in other areas; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished tenure Chief Garza has
   1-14  implemented many innovative programs, including the Border Patrol
   1-15  Soccer League, the Youth of the Year award, and the Head of the
   1-16  Class Program, all of which have strengthened the bond between
   1-17  Laredo law enforcement professionals and the city they serve; he
   1-18  also is a dynamic civic leader who has served on the board of Mercy
   1-19  Hospital and worked closely with local chapters of Crime Stoppers
   1-20  and the Boys Club; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, In light of Chief Garza's exemplary efforts both as
   1-22  a law enforcement professional and as a community leader, it is
   1-23  indeed fitting that he be given special recognition and praise;
   1-24  now, therefore, be it
    2-1        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-2  Legislature hereby commend Chief Jose E. Garza for his many
    2-3  extraordinary contributions to the city of Laredo and the State of
    2-4  Texas; and, be it further
    2-5        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-6  prepared for Chief Garza as an expression of high regard by the
    2-7  Texas House of Representatives.
