R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Nancy Thompson, a valued member of State
1-2 Representative Peggy Hamric's staff, is leaving the hectic life of
1-3 a legislative staffer at the end of the current session to move
1-4 back to Abilene with her husband, former House member Gary
1-5 Thompson, where she plans to sit on her porch, drink lemonade, and
1-6 think deep thoughts; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Although a native of Arkansas and a lifelong
1-8 Razorback fan, this outgoing and open-minded individual
1-9 nevertheless has contributed greatly to the well-being of the
1-10 citizens of this state since her days as a student at Abilene
1-11 Christian University, where she met a shoe salesman who was to
1-12 benefit from her presence more than any other single Texan; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Marrying the man who sold her a pair of shoes more
1-14 than 36 years ago, Mrs. Thompson proved to be a devoted wife and
1-15 mother, steadfastly supporting her husband in all his endeavors and
1-16 raising their two fine children, Jane and Tom; and
1-17 WHEREAS, In addition to caring for her loving family, this
1-18 selfless individual found time to nurture countless Texas

1-22 addition to Austin's legislative environment, working first for our

2-1 disarray in the near future; and
2-2 WHEREAS, Other changes loom on the horizon for legislative
2-3 staffers, who will profoundly miss this well-loved and admired
2-4 lady; no longer will they be able to savor her delicious coffee
2-5 cake and chocolate cookies, which were not the least of her many
2-6 highly appreciated contributions to the proper functioning of a
2-7 hectic Capitol Complex office; on the other hand, Mrs. Thompson's
2-8 departure surely will be a boon to their heretofore unsuccessful
2-9 weight-loss programs; and
2-10 WHEREAS, Her melodious voice, which for years has added
2-11 holiday cheer to the annual performances of the state employee
2-12 Christmas choir, will also be missed, but most importantly, people

2-14 know and love her will simply miss this dear friend's warm and
2-15 loving presence; now, therefore, be it
2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-17 Legislature hereby honor Nancy Thompson for her many years of
