H.R. No. 1146
                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, It has long been the custom of the Texas House of
    1-2  Representatives to honor those individuals who have devoted their
    1-3  lives toward the betterment of their community, state, and nation;
    1-4  and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Dr. Walter Frederick Hasskarl, Jr., a longtime
    1-6  Brenham resident, is one such distinguished Texan worthy of
    1-7  legislative recognition and support; a graduate of The University
    1-8  of Texas Medical School at Galveston, this remarkable gentleman
    1-9  completed a four-year surgical fellowship at the renowned Mayo
   1-10  Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, before returning to his hometown to
   1-11  help open the Brenham Clinic; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Over the course of a career in medicine that has
   1-13  spanned nearly 50 years, Dr. Hasskarl has brought hope and health
   1-14  into the lives of countless Texans; a member of The University of
   1-15  Texas Medical School at Galveston Development Board for 20 years,
   1-16  he played a key role in the building of St. Jude's Hospital and
   1-17  served as a health officer for Washington County, as the medical
   1-18  director of the Brenham Rest Home, and as a member of the Brenham
   1-19  State School Volunteer Services Council; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Dr. Hasskarl is a veteran of the United States Air
   1-21  Force who achieved the rank of captain while serving in the Korean
   1-22  War; a former mayor of the city of Brenham, he also was the
   1-23  founding director of the Brenham Heritage Museum and has been a
   1-24  member of the Washington County Council; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, This exceptional individual has won the respect and
    2-2  admiration of all those privileged to know him, and his many
    2-3  notable contributions to his profession, community, and state are
    2-4  indeed worthy of special commendation at this time; now, therefore,
    2-5  be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby honor Dr. Walter Frederick Hasskarl, Jr., for
    2-8  his many decades of outstanding service as a physician, civic
    2-9  leader, and public servant; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-11  prepared for Dr. Hasskarl as an expression of high regard by the
   2-12  Texas House of Representatives.
