R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The legislative community is a close-knit one, and
1-2 it was with great pleasure that the members of this chamber learned
1-3 of the news of the birth of Savannah Lynn Shivers, the beautiful
1-4 new baby girl of longtime Capitol employee Shari Shivers; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Savannah Lynn weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and
1-6 measured 18-1/2 inches in length when she made her debut at 3:07
1-7 p.m. on May 22, 1995, at St. David's Hospital in Austin, and her
1-8 long-awaited arrival has brought great joy into the lives of her
1-9 parents and many new admirers; and
1-10 WHEREAS, A familiar face in the halls of our State Capitol,
1-11 Ms. Shivers was a valued attorney with the Texas Legislative
1-12 Council from October 1989 to September 1993, during which time she
1-13 earned the respect and admiration of all who knew her for her
1-14 professionalism, integrity, and expertise as a recognized authority
1-15 in the areas of local government and higher education; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Ms. Shivers left the employ of the council to accept
1-17 a position with the speaker's office, and for nearly two years now
1-18 she has provided invaluable assistance to the legislature as the
1-19 speaker's ethics advisor and as an expert in the fields of public
1-20 and higher education; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Joining Ms. Shivers in parenthood is her devoted
1-22 husband, Marc, an attorney with Hughes & Luce, and blessed with
1-23 such outstanding representation, Savannah Lynn can indeed look
1-24 forward to a bright and promising future; now, therefore, be it
2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-2 Legislature hereby officially welcome Savannah Lynn Shivers as a
2-3 treasured new citizen of Texas and extend heartfelt congratulations
2-4 to Shari and Marc Shivers on the birth of their darling new
2-5 daughter; and, be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for Savannah Lynn and her parents as an expression of
2-8 highest regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
