R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 Valerie Brummal and Lacey Brooks of Texas High School in Texarkana
1-3 on winning the 1995 University Interscholastic League Class 4A
1-4 girls' doubles state tennis championship; and
1-5 WHEREAS, After winning both the District 14-4A and the Region
1-6 II-4A titles, these talented players set their sights on the state
1-7 title and, demonstrating true championship heart, triumphed in
1-8 three grueling matches at the state tournament to claim the coveted
1-9 doubles crown; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Ms. Brummal and Ms. Brooks completed the season
1-11 undefeated with a phenomenal record of 22 wins and no defeats, and
1-12 their doubles title is the first-ever girls' state championship in
1-13 the sport of tennis at Texas High School; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Coach John Watson schooled this dynamic duo in the
1-15 complexities of doubles tennis play and inspired them to attain
1-16 their championship dream; and
1-17 WHEREAS, These exemplary young women are a source of
1-18 tremendous pride to the students and faculty of Texas High School
1-19 as well as their many supporters in the community, and their
1-20 exceptional achievements are indeed worthy of special legislative
1-21 recognition; now, therefore, be it
1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
1-23 Legislature hereby congratulate Valerie Brummal and Lacey Brooks on
1-24 winning the 1995 UIL Class 4A girls' doubles state tennis
2-1 championship and extend to them best wishes for continued success
2-2 in all future endeavors; and, be it further
2-3 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-4 for Ms. Brummal and Ms. Brooks and for prominent display at Texas
2-5 High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
2-6 Representatives.
