R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Dr. George C. Wright was recently appointed as
1-2 interim vice president for academic affairs and provost at The
1-3 University of Texas at Arlington; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Kentucky, this
1-5 esteemed educator completed his doctorate at Duke University in
1-6 1977, and since that time, he has distinguished himself as a truly
1-7 outstanding scholar, instructor, and administrator; for three years
1-8 Dr. Wright directed the African-American Studies program at The
1-9 University of Texas at Austin, and he was the recipient of several
1-10 of the university's most prestigious teaching awards; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Currently the vice provost of Duke University, Dr.
1-12 Wright was named the William Kenan, Jr., Professor in American
1-13 History in 1993; he is recognized throughout the country for his
1-14 exceptional talents in both the academic and administrative fields
1-15 of higher education, and it is indeed a privilege for the State of
1-16 Texas to welcome him back to our public university system; now,
1-17 therefore, be it
1-18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
1-19 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. George C. Wright on his recent
1-20 designation as interim vice president for academic affairs and
1-21 provost at The University of Texas at Arlington; and, be it further
1-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
1-23 prepared for Dr. Wright as an expression of high regard by the
1-24 Texas House of Representatives.
