R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Over the course of an illustrious career that has
1-2 spanned more than three decades, San Antonio resident Manny Guerra
1-3 has made many notable contributions to the Texas music industry as
1-4 a musician, producer, and independent record label owner; and
1-5 WHEREAS, This remarkable Texan embarked on his professional
1-6 career in the entertainment industry in 1961, when he became the
1-7 drummer for Sunny and the Sunglows; with his band, Mr. Guerra
1-8 landed on the Billboard Top 40 chart in 1962 with the song "Talk to
1-9 Me" and went on to spend nearly nine years touring as a performer;
1-10 and
1-11 WHEREAS, Mr. Guerra traded his drums for recording equipment
1-12 in the late 1960s, creating a small studio that by 1972 was in
1-13 great demand by many of the nation's most talented recording
1-14 artists and record producers; as his reputation spread, he was
1-15 signed to record and produce under an exclusive contract with the
1-16 Latin music division of CBS Records; and
1-17 WHEREAS, This celebrated producer left CBS Records in 1991 to
1-18 form his own recording company, Manny Music, and his own
1-19 independent record label, Manny Records, here in the Lone Star
1-20 State; since that time, he has received widespread recognition in
1-21 the music industry from such publications as Billboard, Mas
1-22 Magazine, and Radio and TV Hispana, and in 1992 he was honored by
1-23 Governor Ann Richards as one of our state's leading music
1-24 professionals; and
2-1 WHEREAS, In light of Mr. Guerra's outstanding achievements as
2-2 a record producer and independent label owner, it is indeed fitting
2-3 that he be given special legislative commendation at this time;
2-4 now, therefore, be it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-6 Legislature hereby honor Manny Guerra for his many extraordinary
2-7 contributions to the Texas music industry and extend to him warmest
2-8 best wishes for continued happiness and success in his future
2-9 endeavors; and, be it further
2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11 prepared for Mr. Guerra as an expression of high regard by the
2-12 Texas House of Representatives.
