H.R. No. 1237
                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  Mayor Pro Tem Domingo A. Garcia for his distinguished service to
    1-3  the Dallas community; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia received his undergraduate degree in
    1-5  political science from the University of North Texas before going
    1-6  on to earn a graduate degree in international studies from Colegio
    1-7  de Mexico in Mexico City and a law degree from Texas Southern
    1-8  University; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, An accomplished attorney, he has demonstrated a deep
   1-10  and abiding commitment to public service as a member of the Dallas
   1-11  City Council since 1991, and he has served his fellow citizens with
   1-12  integrity and distinction as mayor pro tem for the past two years;
   1-13  and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia is well versed in issues vital to the
   1-15  health and well being of his constituents, and he distinguishes
   1-16  himself as chairman of the council's Neighborhood Redevelopment and
   1-17  Education committees and as a valued member of the Legislative and
   1-18  Finance committees; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, He has continued to work for the betterment of the
   1-20  Dallas community outside of public office as a board member with
   1-21  the Phoenix Project; this remarkable gentleman also has served as a
   1-22  member of the Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Mexican
   1-23  American Bar Association, and he is active in several neighborhood
   1-24  associations as well; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, His outstanding service has earned him much acclaim;
    2-2  he has been named the city's best councilperson by the Dallas
    2-3  Observer and Citizen of the Year by the Oak Cliff Tribune, and his
    2-4  outstanding accomplishments also have merited him a listing in
    2-5  Quien Es Quien; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, A dedicated and tireless public servant, Mr. Garcia
    2-7  has contributed greatly to the quality of life in the Dallas
    2-8  community, and it is indeed fitting that the members of this
    2-9  chamber recognize him for his exceptional service; now, therefore,
   2-10  be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby honor Mayor Pro Tem Domingo A. Garcia for his
   2-13  outstanding service to the City of Dallas and extend to him warmest
   2-14  best wishes for success in all of his future endeavors; and, be it
   2-15  further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-17  prepared for Mr. Garcia as an expression of high regard by the
   2-18  Texas House of Representatives.
