                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, September 16, 1996, marks the 186th anniversary of
    1-2  the sovereign nation of Mexico's declaration of independence from
    1-3  Spanish rule; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The struggle for freedom is perhaps the most noble
    1-5  endeavor that any nation or individual can undertake, and the
    1-6  people of Mexico have made many heroic sacrifices in order to
    1-7  assure that their nation can forge its own destiny; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, In honor of this historic event, the people of
    1-9  Mexico celebrate their independence each year with mariachis,
   1-10  balloons, confetti, streamers, fireworks, an address from the
   1-11  president, and a reenactment of the events that declared their
   1-12  sovereignty as a country; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The State of Texas and Mexico have through the years
   1-14  developed a strong and mutually beneficial relationship, and it is
   1-15  indeed appropriate that this celebration of our partner in
   1-16  prosperity's independence be given special legislative recognition;
   1-17  now, therefore, be it
   1-18        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   1-19  Legislature hereby commemorate Diez y Seis de Septiembre, 1996,
   1-20  Mexico's National Independence Day, and encourage the people of the
   1-21  State of Texas to honor this momentous occasion with appropriate
   1-22  ceremonies and festivities.
